SD-DOH confirms detection of additional coronavirus variants

The South Dakota Department of Health (SD-DOH) can confirm that additional variants of the COVID-19 virus have been detected in South Dakota. This includes one case of the B.1.351 (the “South African variant”) and five cases of B.1.429 (the “California variant”). The announcement comes two weeks after the B.1.1.7 variant (the “U.K. variant”) of COVID-19 was initially detected in the state, now at 14 cases.

South Dakota drops COVID-19 vaccination age to those residents ages 65 and over

The South Dakota Department of Health has announced that starting on Monday, Feb. 22, 2021, the vaccination age of those who qualify to receive their COVID-19 vaccination will be dropping to those who are 65 and over in age. The announcement comes as the Department of Health and Phase I vaccinators have been making significant progress within Group D of the state’s vaccination plan over the past few weeks.

Avera St. Luke’s to administer first doses of COVID-19 vaccine

The South Dakota Department of Health announced Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the second to achieve FDA authorization, has been delivered statewide to all major healthcare networks and smaller regional partners. The delivery marks the second vaccine allotment from the Federal government and the state’s second week of flawless distribution of the life-saving vaccine to South Dakotans.

Free at-home COVID-19 testing now available

The South Dakota Department of Health, in partnership with Vault Health, Inc., is now offering convenient at-home COVID-19 testing kits, available to all South Dakota residents at no cost to them. The saliva-based test can be requested by visiting the Health Department website or by clicking HERE, and is geared towards people who have had close contact(s) with confirmed positive cases.

Deadline approaching to apply for Housing Assistance for South Dakotans impacted by COVID-19

South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA) would like to remind South Dakotans, who have been financially impacted by COVID-19 and need help paying their housing costs, that the application deadline is soon approaching.

Applicants who submit by Friday, Dec. 18, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CT will be considered for funding. Successful applicants may receive up to $1,500 a month.

SD Community Foundation provides $145,000 for Coronavirus Relief
