Northeast South Dakota Economic Corporation granted $100,000 from South Dakota Community Foundation

Northeast South Dakota Economic Corporation (NESDEC) recently received $100,000 from South Dakota Community Foundation’s (SDCF) Beyond Idea Grant (BIG) program to expand their Digital Literacy Program. Offered in partnership with the Bush Foundation, the BIG program supports community-based problem-solving efforts in South Dakota.

Chosen to reign over Homecoming activities at Tiospa Zina Tribal School were King Terrance Robertson and Queen Ava German. The Coronation Ceremony was held Monday morning, Sept. 16. Other candidates for Homecoming Queen were Gerica Redday, Serenity Squirrel Coat, Lakota Keeble and Amyah Renville. Roberts County State’s Attorney’s office hires new Deputy

The Roberts County State’s Attorney’s Office has hired Tessa Dalberg as the Deputy State’s Attorney, serving under State’s Attorney Dylan Kirchmeier. Dalberg, the daughter of Melissa and the late Harold Dalberg, is a Claire City native and a Rosholt High School graduate. She is also a May 2024 graduate of the University of South Dakota’s Knudsen School of Law.

Sisseton High School’s 2024 Homecoming Coronation ceremony was held Monday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sisseton Performing Arts Center. Selected as King and Queen for Homecoming 2024 were Nevada Seda and Alexia Quinn.

This week is Sisseton High School’s Homecoming Week, beginning with Coronaton on Monday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is Dr. Seuss.

Lightning Strike

A tree in the northeast corner of Sisseton, along the road to the cemetery, was struck by lightning Sunday night/early Monday morning, Aug. 5. Part of the trunk of the tree was thrown west across 8th Avenue East, south into Kevin and Julie Buller’s yard, and into the cornfield across the road to the north. The strike left debris in the ditch, and as is visible in the picture, all over the road leading to the cemetery. ~ Courier Photo

Hills & Valley Riding Club holds 28th Annual Ranch Rodeo July 20 at Miles Nelson Arena

The 28th Annual Hills & Valley Riding Club Ranch Rodeo was held Saturday, July 20, at the Miles Nelson Arena in Sisseton. Teams competed in six events: Team Penning, Team Branding, Team Doctoring, Double Muggin’, Team Poles and Barrels, and Calf Sled Relay. Each team consissted of one youth 14 years or younger, one female, and two other members.

Art Alley Gallery opens in Sisseton with local artists showcased

Art Alley Gallery was an art and design idea that’s focus was to repurpose a short alleyway between the Stavig building and First Savings Bank. The idea of Art Alley Gallery sprang up last year between a number of local artists, all of whom are members of The New Old artist collective.
