American Legion is honored to honor Veterans

by Mimi Larsen, Staff Writer Any time the Sisseton Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 is asked to provide an honor guard at a veteran’s funeral, they feel honored to do so. In an interview with several Post 50 members, arranged by Legion member Calvin Hove, that is the sentiment that resurfaced again and again.

“The Honor Guard is probably our key program,” said Post 50 Commander Pat Dady. “We have no difficulty recruiting for the Honor Guard, as it is the most well-known activity, and the best appreciated by families. It is an honor that we provide and an honor we receive.”

“We’re honored to be part of the last honor to a veteran, thanking them for their service,” said Phil George, the Post 50 Adjutant. “One of the neatest things about being on the Honor Guard is that after the service is over, a lot of the family members come shake our hands.
