South Dakota Symphony groups to perform area student compositions September 14


Sept. 14 Concert to Feature Student Compositions Local “student composers,” guided by three professional Composers-in-Residence, created original compositions during a week-long academy at Sisseton Wahpeton College in June. The Dakota Wind Quintet and Dakota String Quartet from the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra will premiere the compositions during a Tuesday, Sept. 14 concert at the Sisseton Performing Arts Center. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. with free admission. Musicians from the Dakota Wind Quintet and the Dakota String Quartet of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra (SDSO) will perform original compositions by area students during a Tuesday, Sept. 14 performance at the Sisseton Performing Arts Center.

The student works were created during their time with the SDSO’s Music Composition Academy held in June 2021 at Sisseton Wahpeton College under the guidance of Ted Wiprud, the former VP of Education at the New York Philharmonic; SDSO musician Jeff Paul and Michael Begay. Also assisting with the Academy was Sisseton Arts Council board member Derrick Lawrence.
