The Sisseton School district is taking advantage of the J-1 teacher cultural exchange visa, which matches up certified teachers from other countries with job openings in the U.S. The school district currently employs five teachers from the Philippines to fill vacancies that were otherwise difficult to fill.

The cultural exchange is made possible by the BridgeUSA Program, established in 1961 as a diplomatic foreign policy tool. It is a win-win for the employing district as well as for foreign teachers.
