On Sunday, Mar. 13, the Sisseton Area Strikers boys basketball team took third place in the SD Special Olympics State Tournament in Pierre in their Developing Schoolers category. They lost their semi-final game, in overtime, by one point. It was an exciting game. “In the [consolation] game, we had already beaten the other team once, but they were playing better this game and were even ahead,” said Strikers coach Michelle Greseth. “Then we had two kids start making threes.”

This was an unusual year, thanks to Covid. The state organization required all players and coaches to show proof of coronavirus vaccinations, and that requirement dropped the number of participants dramatically.
