School food service during unexpected school closures

The South Dakota Department of Education’s Office of Child and Adult Nutrition Services has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to allow for school food services to continue during this time of unexpected school closures.

The department has developed a webpage denoting which school districts and sponsor agencies are continuing school food services during this time of unexpected school closures: coronavirus/foodservice.aspx. This webpage will be updated daily around 8:00 a.m. This may not be an exhaustive list as some sites may be offering food services that the department is not yet aware of. Meal serving site methods will vary by location. Please contact your local school district or sponsoring agency for more details. All meals are free to children.

The Sisseton School District is currently offering meals through this program.

Student breakfast and lunch will be provided through the bus transportation service this week. To request these meals, please fill out the form on the school website www.sisseton. or call and leave a message at 742-2133 prior to 8:00 a.m.

You will be asked to provide your name, the number of needed student meals, your address, phone number, route number and bus driver name, if known. Lunch will be delivered from approximately 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Any child ages 18 and under may receive a meal. Students do not have to be enrolled in the Sisseton School District. Meals must be reserved in advance through the meal request form or leaving a message.

Lunch pickup service will continue at the Ben Reifel gym from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. each weekday. Students must be present at lunch pickup.

It is anticipated that the school lunch service may change week by week if the school closures are extended.

Please contact your child’s school if you have any questions - 698-7613. Information will be posted to the school website and facebook page
