COVID-19 outbreak causes numerous cancellations

Numerous activities have been cancelled in an effort to help stop the spread of COVID- 19. At press time, the Courier had received information on the following cancellations not covered in separate stories:

• The SD Sports Hall of Fame Banquet and Induction Ceremonies scheduled for Apr. 25 in Sioux Falls have been cancelled due to current health concerns because of the COVID-19 virus outbreak. The City of Sioux Falls has enacted an emergency ban on gatherings of over 250 people, which would include the Hall of Fame Banquet. The decision is also being made at this time to provide enough notice for those people needing to make travel plans from distant locations to attend the event. People who have already purchased tickets for the Sports Hall of Fame Banquet will be eligible for refunds. The ten persons scheduled to be inducted in 2020 (Bruce Conley, Laverne Diede, Doug Eggers, Randy Fletcher, Kevin Leighton, Ronald Mitchell, Darwin Robinson, Ken Ruml, Heather (Sieler) Goehner and Steve Withorne) will be inducted in 2021.

• The SD Athletic Directors Spring Conference scheduled for Mar. 24-27 has been cancelled.

• The South Dakota Municipal League (SDML), out of an abundance of caution, has cancelled the SDML District Meetings for this year. The Municipal League remains committed to preserving the health of communities and staff, and simply feels it would be irresponsible to gather people together at this time on a state-wide basis
