On Thursday, June 16, Jim Konsor kept a promise to himself for his 70th birthday. He biked 70 miles, from Aberdeen to the Coffee Cup at Summit. He also decided to turn the ride into a way to raise awareness about the dangers of diabetes.

“I biked 65 miles on my 65th birthday,” said Jim. “So, I decided to do the same for my 70th, but I’ve set myself up with a problem! How do I keep this up?” he asked, laughing. “Someone asked what I was going to do next, and I said, ‘Take a nap!’”

“I’ve had five knee surgeries, so I bike for exercise,” said Jim. Getting ready for his 70-mile ride, he biked ten to twelve miles per day, about four times a week. He’s ridden more than 300 miles since May 1.
