Benjamin “Benji” Thompson, who was born and raised in Sisseton, is the newest deputy sheriff in Roberts County. He started his service on Jan. 26 and will be attending the Law Enforcement Training Academy in August.

Thompson graduated from Sisseton High School in 2018 and received a B.S. in criminal justice from United Tribes Technical College in 2023. While waiting to attend the academy, Thompson is receiving on-the-job training with field training officers (FTOs) to learn various aspects of the job.
