A Sica Hollow improvement meeting was held at the Nicollet Tower & Interpretive Center west of Sisseton on Thursday, July 23. At the invitation of State Representative Steve McCleerey, those in attendance included (front row, left to right) State Senator Susan Wismer, Rep. McCleerey, Lori Skadsen of Game Fish & Parks, Roberts County Commissioner Chairman Dennis Jensen, (back row) John Rasmussen of the Heritage Museums of the Coteau des Prairies, Willy Collignon of Game Fish & Parks, SD Department of Transportation Regional Traffic Engineer Dan Martell, SD Department of Tourism Industry Outreach and Development Representative Calvin Bloemendaal, Department of Transportation Area Engineer Matt Brey, SD Secretary of Tourism Jim Hagen, Sisseton Mayor Terry Jaspers, SD Secretary of Tribal Relations Dave Flute, Marshall County Commissioner Chairman Doug Medhaug, and Red Iron Township Board Member Glen Johnson. Sica Hollow runs through both Roberts and Marshall Counties, and discussion was held on ways to improve this natural resource to benefit both area residents and tourists. Full of mystery and legends, Sica Hollow State Park has long been a favorite hiking and riding destination and draws in heavy traffic in the fall to view the colorful foliage. Given its attractive setting in an area surrounded by glacial lakes, the park may have far more potential for development, which was the topic explored at this meeting. GFP and Tourism personnel toured Sica Hollow State Park following the meeting. ~ Courier Photo
