A Social Distancing Cruise Night was held on Friday, May 15, 2020 in honor of this year’s graduating seniors from Sisseton High
School and Tiospa Zina Tribal School. The Lake Area Cruisers, First Call Auto Parts NAPA and the Sisseton Area Chamber of Commerce sponsored a second Cruise
Night with cars, trucks, motorcycles and emergency vehicles, with their lights and sirens blaring, driving up and down Veterans Avenue in Sisseton. The parade of vehicles
lined up at the Sisseton Livestock Auction parking lot, followed a City of Sisseton police car, did a few “mains” and then dispersed around town. Seniors who were
able to make it lined up on the west side of Veterans from Dakota Pawn to TEAM Insurance in their caps and gowns Sisseton High School women are
wearing red gowns, Sisseton High School men are wearing black gowns, Tiospa Zina students are wearing white gowns or their street clothes. Area residents, organizations
and businesses have been working on ideas to honor graduates who have missed the last quarter of their high school year, proms, spring sports, club banquets,
baccalaureate, scholarship and award recognition, and graduations with friends and family in attendance. The Sisseton Courier in conjunction with the Sisseton Retailers
Association raised funds and printed banners for each area graduate. They were hung on the baseball field fencing along Highway 10 over the
weekend. Graduates were able to pick up their banner to have as memorabilia of this peculiar year. Sisseton High School held their graduation ceremony on Saturday,
May 16, 2020 in the high school parking lot. Tiospa Zina has not yet set a date for their graduation ceremony. They are looking at late June or early July. ~Courier Photos
