Having fun with model trains

by Mimi Larsen Courier Staff Writer

Rick Steiner is a model train hobbyist. When he was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army in the early 1980s, he loved riding the trains wherever he wanted to go during his free time. When he saw Nuremburg Transport Museum’s model train display, his enthusiasm for model trains took root. Now, he has a display that takes up half of his upstairs, in a 12 x 20-foot room. “I loved riding the railroad [in Germany], because they were all electric,” said Rick. “Nuremburg had model train displays that were blocks long. Each room had a different scale, and there were airports, and cities. It was pretty amazing, and got me hooked.” For more on this story and many more please purchase a copy of the Sisseton Courier on news stands now or purchase a copy of the E-edtion on this website..
